Our Man for UNESCO

The United States maintains a Permanent Delegation at UNESCO. Until a new Ambassador is in place, Stephen Engelken, the Chargé d'Affaires runs the U.S. Mission to UNESCO and leads in our relations with the Organization.

Engelken is a veteran of more than 30 years in the U.S. Foreign Service. He began his career with service as a vice consul at the U.S. Consulate in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia and subsequently served at U.S. Embassies in Jordan, Lebanon, Italy, France, and Australia. Immediately before joining the staff of the U.S. Mission to UNESCO in June 2007, Mr. Engelken served in Washington as director of the Office of Pakistan and Bangladesh Affairs in the State Department’s South and Central Asia Bureau.
